1970's Canterbury Tales Medal
Chaucer's Physician
This medal is part of a limited edition set produced in the 1970's by the famous medal makers John Pinches Ltd. It celebrated Geoffrey Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales".
The medal below represents "The Physician's Tale". The physician is seen holding up a matula, a container specifically used for the examination of urine - uroscopy. The matula was the medieval sign of a doctor, like a stethoscope might be today.
