The Canadian Mallet (or Gavel)

A gift from the President of the CAU

Since the formation of BAUS in 1945, a variety of objects has been presented to the Association. These objects are rarely used and, because of space constraints and security issues, they are not usually on display in the BAUS London offices. We have, therefore, displayed them in the Museum so that the kind gifts of individuals and organisations can be viewed by everyone.

This mallet or gavel was presented to BAUS by the Canadian Association of Urology in 1986.

It is made from Canadian maple, with a silver presentaion band around the head.

It was made by Henry Birks & Sons Ltd of Canada and is still in its Birk's turquoise cloth bag and presentation box.

The mallet was created to commemorate the joint meeting of the The British Association of Urological Surgeons and the Canadian Urological Society at the Cafe Royal London in 1986.

The inscription reads: "Presented by Grant Angus Farrow, President of the Canadian Urological Society to John Peter Blandy, President of the British Association of Urological Surgeons, on the occasion of their joint meeting. London June 1986".
