The Wales region has, since 1 October 2009, had a Health Service which differs significantly in structure from that of the NHS in England. Major administrative changes during the 2009 re-organisation resulted in a complete overhaul of the underlying structure of Welsh medicine.
These included the replacement of 22 Local Health Boards and 8 local NHS Trusts with seven new Health Boards, responsible for hospital & community services as well as for GP, pharmacy & dental services.
This change removed the "purchaser-provider split", with each Health Board delivering both primary and secondary care. Tertiary services are organised on an all-Wales basis.
The Welsh Urological Society holds one meeting each year at rotating venues throughout Wales.
