Astute medical politician
Walter Galbraith was born in Glasgow, educated at Glasgow Academy and the Leys School Cambridge, and then completed his medical training in Glasgow.
He served with the British Expeditionary Force during the First World War.
He became President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was a founder member & third President of BAUS. Galbraith was involved in the birth of the NHS, the Scottish Health Services Council, the Joint Consultants and Specialists Committee and the Medical Whitley Council.
