The stamp was issued in 1979 in France on the occasion of the 18th Congress of the Societe International d'Urologie (SIU) in Paris.
The Doctor
Jean Casimir Félix Guyon (1831 - 1920) was born in Saint-Denis, Ile-Bourbon, now called Réunion, a French territory in the Indian Ocean. He studied medicine in Paris.
He later became a professor of surgical pathology at the University of Paris and then the first Professor of Urology.
Urology Connections
Guyon taught urology at the Necker Hospital in Paris.
He was instrumental in forming the Association Internationale d'Urologie, which later became the SIU.
