Commences 01 October 2024 for 6-12 months
Department: Luton & Dunstable NHS University Hospital (Bedfordshire NHS Hospitals Trust)
An excellent and exciting opportunity arises to join an established HoLEP training programme for a 6-12 month post based at The Luton & Dunstable NHS Foundation Trust, specifically aimed at senior trainees (ideally post CCT) interested in a structured, modular and fully mentored training programme in HoLEP surgery with a Consultant post in delivering a male LUTS service in mind. The post-holder will be trained specifically in HoLEP surgery with 2.25 days in theatres per week with a Consultant Urological Surgeon with a specialist interest in HoLEP surgery. This is an ideal opportunity to develop skills to deliver a male LUTS service, from clinical work-up, dedicated male LUTS follow-up clinics and to the setting up of and delivering a successful HoLEP service. Our unit performs in excess of 200 cases per year and over the last 10 years we have performed more than 1600 cases and have dedicated training theatres to teach the post-holder. Over the last 6 years we have a track record of successful fellows (8 to date) taking up posts in teaching hospitals with a HoLEP portfolio as well as the running of a twice yearly HoLEP Masterclass (Pre-Covid). The successful candidate can expect to complete 45-50 cases in 6 months and approximately 80-90 cases over a 12-month period with a view to independent practice. There are two posts and both successful candidates would share theatre time and buddy up in their training, supporting a modular structured peer supported training approach, that enhances the wider acquisition of this skill. We also offer minimally invasive surgical treatments (Rezum and Urolift) and we would support the training of these techniques too. Our department regularly presents at international meetings and there would again be encouragement to promote clinical audit and original research for abstract submission. The remainder of the timetable supports clinical activity for the department including a 1:6 on-call day-time rota with ample allocation of independent operating to support the smooth transition into a Consultant post. Luton has excellent connections into London and boasts an international airport as well as a Premier League team.
